Mogilev to host Belarus-Russia regional forum in 2018

MINSK, 4 July (BelTA) – The fifth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will be held in Mogilev next year, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said in an interview with the ONT TV channel on 3 July, BelTA has learned.

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, the Supreme State Council of the Belarus-Russia Union State considered changing the schedule of the Forum of Regions at the recent meeting in Moscow. “This issue was discussed at the level of the heads of state. The two presidents gave instructions to maintain the existing schedule and hold the forum once a year,” he said.

The speaker spoke about the issues of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Belarus that were discussed in Moscow on 29 and 30 June. Special attention was paid to the new forms of partnership. “The cooperation used to be more about trade. Now there are new approaches: for instance, engineering in industry, joint breeding and selection projects in agriculture. These are the things that define the far-reaching outlook,” he said.

During the negotiations, an agreement was reached to work together in innovative areas.

Mikhail Myasnikovich said that work is now underway to set up new cluster management companies that will determine the future of the common domestic market.

The parties also discussed the bilateral cooperation in construction and transport services, the transfer of flights from Belarus to the international terminals of the Russian airports.
