Lukashenko reaffirms commitment to multipolar world

03.12.2018

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the multipolar world in an interview to the Russian federal state TV channel Russia 24. Excerpts from his interview with Russian TV presenter Sergey Brilev were published on Vesti.ru, BelTA has learned.

“When I said at the Munich Conference that I was absolutely against the disintegration of the European Union, some were really surprised. They have imposed sanctions against Belarus, against me. I was banned from visiting any of their countries. How could the last dictator of Europe, as they called me, say things like that?! There is no contradiction in this. I have always backed a multipolar world. I was criticized by Americans for that as nobody needed multipolarity. China is for a multipolar world. Russians are for it, too,” the Belarusian leader said.

According to him, the European Union is one of the pillars of a multipolar world, alongside with the United States, China, Russia, and partly India. “If we pull this one of the main pillars, the EU, out, the whole planet will falter. If the European Union collapses, perhaps it will be easier for Russia to talk with some states, for the United States - with others. We must understand, however, that we will once again face side effects of the EU collapse, the economy may collapse and so on. Russia and the United States do not need this,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
