International conference to mark CIS' 30th anniversary in Minsk on 27-29 September

An international science and practice conference will take place in Minsk on 27-29 September on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov on 22 September.

According to the source, the conference will take place in line with the plan on priority measures and events in the sphere of humanitarian cooperation of the CIS member states in 2021-2022 and in line with the action plan on the 30th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The Republic of Belarus, the CIS Executive Committee, the CIS member states, sectoral cooperation bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the CIS Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Cooperation (IFESCCO) will organize the conference.

The conference will take place at premises of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB). Over 300 representatives of government agencies, CIS bodies, leading scientists and specialists, heads of the largest research and education institutions of a number of countries, including delegations from Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and other persons will take part in the conference.

Plenary sessions will take place at premises of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 28 September and the CIS Executive Committee on 29 September. Panel sessions will be held in the afternoon on 28 September. In particular, the building of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will host a panel session on economic interaction, humanitarian cooperation, and the improvement of the legal base of the CIS member states and a panel session on science and innovative cooperation of the CIS states. The Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (BelMAPE) will host a panel session on fundamental and clinical aspects of epidemiology problems in the CIS states. The Academy of the Internal Affairs Ministry of Belarus will host a panel session on the interaction of the CIS states in security, crime control, and fight against terrorism. The Informatics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will host a panel session on R&D cooperation in space exploration.

The conference will take place alongside the 34th session of the Council of the International Association of the Academies of Sciences (IAAS). The session will take place in the afternoon on 28 September. Delegations of a number of IAAS member organizations led by their heads will take part in the session. Presidents and top administrators of the national academies of sciences of the CIS states, a number of research and education institutions from Russia and China have confirmed they will participate in the session, including by using videoconference technologies.

Participants of the conference timed to the 30th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States are expected to discuss a broad range of matters concerning the development of the Commonwealth of Independent States. They will work out concrete recommendations on improving the CIS' effectiveness and will come up with an improvement strategy.
