Lukashenko visiting Motovelo Plant

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko is visiting the premises of OOO MotoVeloZavod and OAO Motovelo Plant in Minsk on 5 March, BelTA has learned.

The head of state will be briefed on the development prospects for the national manufacturing of motorcycles and bicycles and proposals for the further use of the Motovelo Plant premises.

Aleksandr Lukashenko is set to get familiar with the enterprise, including the building of the Motovelo factory that produces bicycles.

The president announced his intention to visit Motovelo after the meeting on the development of the national motorcycle and bicycle manufacturing that was held on 16 February 2021. At the meeting Aleksandr Lukashenko ordered to develop a clear, comprehensive plan for the use and development of the Motovelo production site and the future work of the Motovelo factory.

The head of state stressed that the country cannot lose its motorcycle and bicycle factory. “The priorities of our economic policy were determined at the Belarusian People's Congress. Therefore, if someone thinks that we will sell this enterprise to anybody, privatize it, close it or, roughly speaking, start producing only bicycle spoke while investors will relocate all production facilities to Italy, Russia or China, they are mistaken,” the Belarusian leader warned. According to the head of state, Motovelo Plant is among such well-known Belarusian companies as MAZ, BelAZ, MTZ, Gomselmash which are considered the face of the Belarusian manufacturing industry, the brands of Belarus.

MotoVeloZavod is a manufacturer of domestic motorcycles and bicycles. The enterprise boasts its trademarks Aist and Minsk and also its new ones A1 and Krakken. The goods are produced at the manufacturing site in 8 Partizansky Prospekt, on the premises and equipment rented from Motovelo Plant which is undergoing a bankruptcy procedure. Over the five years since MotoVeloZavod was set up, the company's lineup has increased from 20 to 120 models of bicycles, from 4 to 9 models of motorcycles. The number of employees has gone up from 70 in 2016 to 120 specialists in 2020.
